Audemars Piguet in the course of its production
has always combined classicism with creativity. For example, after the Second World War, a time when the round shape of watches was
king, the brand kept its
imagination alive by offering cases in the most varied de-
clinations. This led, in the 1970s, to
watches with integrated bracelets. In 1971, one year before
the iconic Royal Oak ref. 5402, Audemars Piguet
launched the ref. 5403, renamed
“Cobra” by collectors.
Also designed by Gerald Genta, the
model lived for a while in the shadow of its
little brother, with whom it shares some characteristics, including the famous calibre 2121.
But the distinguishing feature is the bracelet, in which the
House has succeeded in combining the high manufacturing skills
of its craftsmen and its distinctive style. It is com-
posed by links that gradually widen
until they merge with the case, hiding the connecting points
.
This “Cobra” comes in white gold and an
iconic sunburst blue dial embellished with diamond in-
dications. Preserved in impeccable condition, it is one of the main lots of “Padel and Paddle”.
