Among the most iconic wrist chronographs admired by collectors is the Rolex Daytona line of watches. The Daytona model has a long history and a symbiotic relationship between the Geneva-based watchmaker and the world of motor sports. A requirement for wristwatches was autonomy, precision and legibility, but over time the Daytona became more of a revered status symbol than a chronograph for measuring time.
In 1969, Rolex simultaneously launched the ref. 6263 and 6265, which replaced the first Oyster Cosmograph ref. 6240. The Cosmograph Daytona with screw-down pushers was in production for almost 20 years and was offered in stainless steel or in 18kt and 14kt gold. The presence of the screw-down pushers allowed these new references to be more water-resistant and weatherproof.
The present lot is part of the first generation of Ref. 6265, distinguished by a black dial, one of the most sought-after by collectors, marked โt swiss tโ and characterised by the counters with a tinge tending towards a cream hue. Equipped with its folded link bracelet and preserved in good condition, it ranks among the top lots in the Padel and Paddle auction.
